On the road….

About a month ago I took a road trip, starting in Buffalo and driving all the way down into the FL Keys for about two weeks and then headed up to Miami for a brief time before return to Baltimore.  I love travel even it means sitting in a car for a couple days.  Road culture is a strange one, full of transients, small hotels and fast food.  If you ever head through Savannah, GA make sure to stop into the Thunderbird Inn and say hi to Nick, a very cool actor from Australia, thats him in the pic of the guy looking through the window.  Traveling always makes me think of the song Homeward Bound my Simon and Garfunkle.  Maybe because I am a romantic at heart and that song has a somber and beautiful romantic story about being on the road and its become sort of a ritual to listen to when I am sitting on a plane or airport, watching the strangers pass in frantic waves.  Most of my travels have been done by myself and I love how it provides uninterupted time to self reflect and observe the travel culture.  My previous post was a small look into my on going essay on airports which is part of my observation of this culture and how I fit into it.  There is always the “I” in a project….  How do you fit into the travel culture and what do you enjoy about it?? The vacation, the anticipation the feeling of being completely on your own in an overly busy place like an airport or plane?  The brief and interesting friendships you make with people you otherwise would never talk to?
