Constellation Collective

I am heading out of town this weekend so I am posting a little early for next weeks edition.  Last weekend I had the opportunity to work with a local artist collective called Constellation.  We spent most of the afternoon shooting portraits around Baltimore and it was extremely cold, you cant tell from the pics, but it was brutal. I love fashion photography, it combines so many art forms and so I took a very “fashion” approach to these portraits because to me, that is what the collective is, the mergence of different disciplines.

Collectives are a wonderful for working artists, combining a diverse group of people aimed at accomplishing something with shared interests.   Historically collectives have been around a while helping disburse resources like sharing ideas, materials, space, helping with group shows and so on.  From my experience with tight nit groups of artists, it most importantly provides an enviroment for personal growth. Ideally we are banded together because the members of the group find inspiration in each others work. From a marketing stand point, at least for photographers, it can help define your speciality, style or genre of photography because of the photographers you become associated with.

At some point I will begin, POSSIBLY, to expand 52 Fresh Photo into a publication with small group of photographers, posting content on a weekly basis. I think this mergers the ideals of a collective with the internet’s ability to display content for viewers.
